Lithology Log Interval Share Tool

One logged lithology interval clipped to the supplied depth window, with depth increasing downward.

Description

overlapThickness is the nonnegative intersection of the two depth intervals; logShare divides it by logBase-logTop.

Geological records use depth datums, age-before-present coordinates and recovery definitions. A signed difference or recovered-length ratio can expose a supplied inconsistency without reconstructing geological history or correcting sample loss.

overlapThickness is the nonnegative intersection of the two depth intervals; logShare divides it by logBase-logTop.

When to use this tool

Use Lithology Log Interval Share when checking an explicit geological coordinate, interval or recovery convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter unitTop, unitBase, logTop, logBase. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read overlapThickness, logShare. Use the output convention below.

Require unitBase >= unitTop and logBase > logTop. overlapThickness is the nonnegative intersection of the two depth intervals; logShare divides it by logBase-logTop.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Depths share a positive-down reference and unit. No inclusive endpoint length is added, and the tool does not interpret lithology, detect contacts or merge repeated intervals.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified datums, original logs and appropriate geological interpretation when correlating units or reconstructing missing intervals.
