Earth Observation Radiance Quantization Term Tool

Apply explicit linear radiance gain and offset to a supplied nonnegative digital code without sensor lookup or calibration inference.

Description

Apply a supplied linear radiance gain and offset to a digital code.

Earth-science records distinguish depth signs, vertical datums, before-present ages, calibration factors and specimen definitions. Apparent porosity can be negative for inconsistent density inputs, and core recovery may exceed the drilled interval. Local labels and supplied transformations do not establish geological interpretation, physical validity or actual observation quality.

Apply a supplied linear radiance gain and offset to a digital code.

When to use this tool

Use Earth Observation Radiance Quantization Term when you already have digitalCode, suppliedRadianceGain, suppliedRadianceOffset and need to apply a supplied linear radiance gain and offset to a digital code.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter digitalCode, suppliedRadianceGain, suppliedRadianceOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read radiance. Use the output convention below.

Require digitalCode a nonnegative safe integer; return code*suppliedRadianceGain+suppliedRadianceOffset.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
digitalCodeDigital CodeRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
suppliedRadianceGainSigned radiance/code factor; calibration is supplied rather than retrieved.Required. Finite number.
suppliedRadianceOffsetSupplied Radiance OffsetRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Gain and offset may be signed. This is supplied calibration arithmetic, not calibration retrieval, atmospheric correction, reflectance or a complete radiometric model.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified survey, sample, sensor and timescale records with consistent units and reference frames. Apply the complete geological, hydrological or physical model when local density ratios, depth spans or calibration terms cannot establish the required interpretation.
