Description
Return a cyclic counterbalanced condition index.
Developmental task timing and coded sequences need a common clock and explicit rules for exclusions, adjacency and response windows. A delay, duration share or transition rate is descriptive rather than a measure of developmental status.
Return a cyclic counterbalanced condition index.
When to use this tool
Use Child Choice Counterbalance Start when checking a supplied task-time or coded-sequence convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter trial, conditionCount, startCondition. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read condition. Use the output convention below.
Return a cyclic counterbalanced condition index. Require nonnegative whole trial, conditionCount in [1,256] and zero-based startCondition; condition = (trial modulo count+start) modulo count.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| trial | Trial | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| conditionCount | Condition Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1; maximum 256. |
| startCondition | Start Condition | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| condition | Condition | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This deterministic cycle is not randomization or verification of a balanced study design.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the original observations and study design; use appropriate statistical and professional methods for developmental conclusions.
