Description
Map a supplied morphology code to missing, inapplicable or recorded.
Developmental measurements depend on specimen identity, staging sources, coordinate registration, image scale and time-zero conventions. A section-area fraction differs from a volume, a generation-number step differs from verified lineage, and a midpoint of observations differs from an exact event time. Local scalar terms do not infer developmental mechanisms.
Map a supplied morphology code to missing, inapplicable or recorded.
When to use this tool
Use Morphology Feature Missing Code when you already have featureCode, recordedCode, missingCode, inapplicableCode and need to map a supplied morphology code to missing, inapplicable or recorded.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter featureCode, recordedCode, missingCode, inapplicableCode. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read status. Use the output convention below.
Require featureCode nonempty and missingCode!=inapplicableCode; test the recorded code against each, otherwise return recorded.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| featureCode | Feature Code | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| recordedCode | Recorded Code | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| missingCode | Missing Code | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| inapplicableCode | Inapplicable Code | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| status | Recorded means neither supplied sentinel matched; it does not mean a recognized valid feature value. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Empty code strings are permitted if the two special codes differ. Recorded means neither sentinel, not a recognized or valid morphology value.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect original specimens, calibrated images, acquisition timelines and staging references for biological interpretation. Use complete image, lineage and experimental analyses when needed; local ratios, source-qualified labels and supplied coordinate arithmetic do not perform those analyses.
