Description
Resolve a restricted indent-size value against tab width.
Build and configuration formats have dialect-specific quoting, whitespace and escaping rules. A local prefix or character transformation handles only the declared fragment, leaving full parsing, evaluation and precedence to the consuming implementation.
Resolve a restricted indent-size value against tab width.
When to use this tool
Use EditorConfig Indent Size Tab Inheritance when inspecting the stated text or configuration fragment.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter indentSize, tabWidth. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read columns, inherited. Inspect inherited before interpreting the associated values.
Resolve a restricted indent-size value against tab width. Require tabWidth in [1,256]; indentSize is tab or positive decimal producing a whole value in that range. Return columns and inherited flag.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| indentSize | Indent Size | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| tabWidth | Tab Width | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1; maximum 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| columns | Columns | Required. Safe integer. |
| inherited | Inherited | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This does not resolve unset values, full inheritance chains or actual editor configuration.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the appropriate full parser and actual configuration context for reliable interpretation or application.
