Description
Return convex-hull deficit and its area share.
Skin-image research can record scale, annotation geometry, visibility and timing. Pixel counts, mask components and supplied metadata are technical summaries rather than disease findings or proof an image is suitable for diagnosis.
Return convex-hull deficit and its area share.
When to use this tool
Use Lesion Outline Convex Deficit Share when checking a supplied dermatology research image or annotation record.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter outlineArea, convexHullArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read deficit, share. Use the output convention below.
Return convex-hull deficit and its area share. Require positive convexHullArea and outlineArea in [0,hull]; deficit = hull-outline and share = deficit/hull.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| outlineArea | Outline Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| convexHullArea | Convex Hull Area | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| deficit | Deficit | Required. Finite number. |
| share | Dimensionless ratio on the explicitly stated numerator and denominator basis. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Both areas are supplied; this geometric descriptor does not detect a lesion or diagnose disease.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated imaging and professional clinical assessment for any health interpretation; validate annotation and measurement methods separately.
