Description
Calculate a tooth denominator under a supplied missing-tooth policy.
Dental records depend on surface notation, assessed and excluded denominators, missing versus observed zero, reporting quanta and recorded equipment dates. Calendar-day counts can be elapsed or inclusive, and nominal expiry comparisons do not establish sterility. Local surface fractions and source labels are not automatically validated clinical indices.
Calculate a tooth denominator under a supplied missing-tooth policy.
When to use this tool
Use Dental Chart Tooth Missing Denominator when you already have plannedTeeth, missingTeeth, excludeMissing and need to calculate a tooth denominator under a supplied missing-tooth policy.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter plannedTeeth, missingTeeth, excludeMissing. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read denominator. Use the output convention below.
Require safe plannedTeeth>=0 and missingTeeth within planned; subtract missing only when excludeMissing=true.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| plannedTeeth | Planned Teeth | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| missingTeeth | Missing Teeth | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| excludeMissing | Exclude Missing | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| denominator | Planned count minus optional missing count; zero is a returned count rather than an input error. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Zero denominators are returned rather than rejected. No missing teeth, eligible sites, scoring rule or complete oral-health index is determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use original chart, observation and reprocessing records with the complete scoring or controlled workflow. Keep denominator, missingness and date conventions explicit; local arithmetic does not determine oral-health status, appropriate recall intervals or readiness for care.
