L(x)

Person-years lived L(x) in each interval, aligned with l(x); treat the final interval as open-ended.

Prevalence

Age-specific prevalence of disability or ill-health in each interval.

e(x)

Total life expectancy at the start of each interval.

HLE(x)

Healthy life expectancy at the start of each interval.

Results depend strongly on case definitions, disability weights, duration assumptions, and the standard life table. Do not mix discounted, age-weighted, incidence-based, and prevalence-based inputs without documenting the convention.

Report mortality and disability components separately alongside the combined summary measure. Case counts, crude rates, and uncertainty intervals help readers interpret what the aggregate health-loss value represents.
