Life expectancy

Total life expectancy at the reference age in years.

Years unwell

Expected years lived with disability or ill-health at that age.

HALE

Health-adjusted life expectancy in years.

Results depend strongly on case definitions, disability weights, duration assumptions, and the standard life table. Do not mix discounted, age-weighted, incidence-based, and prevalence-based inputs without documenting the convention.

Report mortality and disability components separately alongside the combined summary measure. Case counts, crude rates, and uncertainty intervals help readers interpret what the aggregate health-loss value represents.
