Description
Decode one conventional ASCII caret token.
Caret notation displays certain ASCII control values as readable text. Decoding that spelling yields a byte value rather than an instruction to execute the control action.
Decode one conventional ASCII caret token.
When to use this tool
Use Ascii Control Caret Token Value when mapping one supported caret token to its numeric octet.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter token. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read octet. Use the output convention below.
Decode one conventional ASCII caret token. Require caret plus ASCII @ through underscore or question mark; return second character minus 64, except question mark maps to 127.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| token | Token | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| octet | One numeric octet, from 0 through 255. | Required. Safe integer. |
{
"input": {
"token": "^M"
},
"output": {
"octet": 13
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- This emits a numeric octet, not a terminal action or whole-text decoder.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use appropriate text escaping or byte handling for complete strings and actual terminal protocols.
