Description
Return a smoothed leave-one-out target-encoding term.
Feature transformations depend on training-derived parameters, category vocabularies and explicit missing-value conventions. A local formula or token rule does not ensure that fitting, application and validation avoid data leakage.
Return a smoothed leave-one-out target-encoding term.
When to use this tool
Use Target Encoding One Out Row Term when checking one supplied feature-transform or encoding component.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter groupSum, groupCount, rowTarget, priorMean, smoothing. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read remainingCount, encoded. Use the output convention below.
Return a smoothed leave-one-out target-encoding term. Require whole groupCount >= 1, smoothing >= 0 and count-1+smoothing > 0; encoded = (groupSum-rowTarget+smoothing*priorMean)/(groupCount-1+smoothing).1
Preprocessing and feature construction must respect training and evaluation separation. A local time inequality or leave-one-out term is only one part of a leakage review.2
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| groupSum | Group target sum that includes this exact rowTarget observation. | Required. Finite number. |
| groupCount | Group size including the row being left out. | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| rowTarget | Row Target | Required. Finite number. |
| priorMean | Prior Mean | Required. Finite number. |
| smoothing | Smoothing | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| remainingCount | Remaining Count | Required. Safe integer. |
| encoded | (groupSum-rowTarget+smoothing*priorMean)/(groupCount-1+smoothing). | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Group aggregates must actually include the row exactly once; fold construction and leakage prevention are not verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a correctly fitted preprocessing pipeline and suitable validation design for complete data transformation and model assessment.
