Accent On Off Beat Placement Counter
Classify actual dance accent phases under caller disjoint on/off-beat windows, retaining other subdivisions; not forced binary syncopation or inferred musical accent detection.
Description
Accent phase can fall on a beat, at a caller off-beat phase or elsewhere.
Accent phase can fall on a beat, at a caller off-beat phase or elsewhere. Disjoint tolerance windows avoid forced binary classification.1
Enter nonnegative accent positions, tolerance 0≤value<0.25 and off-beat phase 0–1 strictly farther than twice tolerance from both endpoints. Count inclusive on/off matches and return other indexes; empty positions are allowed.
When to use Accent On Off Beat Placement Counter
Use Accent On Off Beat Placement Counter when you need to evaluate the supplied records under the calculation and evidence rules below. No musical accent detection or automatic syncopation-quality judgement is supplied.
Prepare the annotated dance, timing, rehearsal or inventory records requested. Supply caller rules, evidence flags and local reference values; distinguish beats, bars, counts and seconds.
How to use Accent On Off Beat Placement Counter and understand its results
- Prepare the annotated dance, timing, rehearsal or inventory records requested. Supply caller rules, evidence flags and local reference values; distinguish beats, bars, counts and seconds.
- Enter observedAccentBeatPositions, callerNearestBeatTolerance, callerOffBeatPhase using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read onBeatAccentCount, callerOffBeatAccentCount, unclassifiedAccentIndices. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| observedAccentBeatPositions | Observed accent beat positions | list of number | Required |
| callerNearestBeatTolerance | Caller nearest beat tolerance | number | Required |
| callerOffBeatPhase | Caller off beat phase | number | Required |
Enter nonnegative accent positions, tolerance 0≤value<0.25 and off-beat phase 0–1 strictly farther than twice tolerance from both endpoints. Count inclusive on/off matches and return other indexes; empty positions are allowed.
phase=position mod1; circularDistance=min(abs(phase−target),1−abs(phase−target)) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| onBeatAccentCount | On beat accent count | number |
| callerOffBeatAccentCount | Caller off beat accent count | number |
| unclassifiedAccentIndices | Unclassified accent indices | list of number |

} Limitations and assumptions
No musical accent detection or automatic syncopation-quality judgement is supplied.
Numeric inputs, where present, must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 10,000 entries; string lists to 128 strings of at most 128 characters each. The rules above may impose smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Downbeat Accent Pattern Numbering Lookup: A caller accent pattern repeats from an explicit origin. Event positions use modulo indexing into that pattern. For a complementary task, use Tango Walk Beat Syncopation Checker: Footfall timing can be compared with a caller score while preserving permitted syncopation annotations. Off-beat timing is not automatically an error.
