Dead Time Fractional Delay Weight Tool

Linear interpolation between neighboring delayed samples; fraction zero selects the newer sample.

Description

Return a two-sample fractional-delay interpolation.

Sampled control models distinguish physical delay, held-state age, phase convention and quantization. A local frequency factor or error envelope assumes the stated sample and signal model, rather than measuring actual sensor or plant behavior.

Return a two-sample fractional-delay interpolation.

When to use this tool

Use Dead Time Fractional Delay Weight when checking one supplied sample, delay or quantization convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter newer, older, fraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read value. Use the output convention below.

Return a two-sample fractional-delay interpolation. Require fraction in [0,1]; value = (1-fraction)*newer+fraction*older.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
newerNewerRequired. Finite number.
olderOlderRequired. Finite number.
fractionDimensionless fraction on the stated basis; a value of 1 represents the whole reference amount.Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape

Limitations and assumptions

  • Fraction weights the older sample; no signal buffer, bandlimited reconstruction or delay estimation is performed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated sampled-system and measurement model for practical control design, operating limits and safety.
