Description
Compare two supplied pile-sort items' recorded group assignments.
Anthropological records preserve source language, translation status, community terms, household reference dates, kinship labels and permission context. A reciprocal-term display is not a verified kinship rule, while a pseudonym collision differs from identity verification. Display masks and public-access labels do not establish adequate protection or valid consent.
Compare two supplied pile-sort items' recorded group assignments.
When to use this tool
Use Pile Sort Item Pair Same Group Flag when you already have firstItem, secondItem, itemCodes, groupCodes and need to compare two supplied pile-sort items' recorded group assignments.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstItem, secondItem, itemCodes, groupCodes. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read bothAssigned, sameGroup. Inspect bothAssigned, sameGroup before interpreting the associated values.
Require equal-length itemCodes/groupCodes arrays and unique item codes; locate both queried items. bothAssigned requires both present; sameGroup additionally requires equal corresponding group codes.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstItem | First Item | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| secondItem | Second Item | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| itemCodes | Item Codes | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| groupCodes | Group Codes | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| bothAssigned | Both queried exact item codes are present; querying the same existing item is permitted. | Required. Boolean. |
| sameGroup | Same Group | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Missing items return false for both flags. Empty codes and querying the same item are accepted; no cultural similarity, statistical clustering or actual sorting is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Consult the original field records, community-provided terms, translation sources and permission instructions for actual interpretation or reuse. Apply protection to underlying records and evaluate the full research context; local keys and status labels do not perform those tasks.
