Description
Return cold hole/shaft dimensions and clearance.
Cryogenic engineering calculations require compatible pressure, temperature, material and geometry conventions. A local heat-load, composition or contraction term assumes supplied properties and does not establish a safe system or complete thermodynamic state.
Return cold hole/shaft dimensions and clearance.
When to use this tool
Use Cryostat Warm Cold Contraction Clearance when checking one supplied cryogenic measurement, material or load contribution.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter warmHole, warmShaft, holeRetention, shaftRetention. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read coldHole, coldShaft, clearance. Use the output convention below.
Return cold hole/shaft dimensions and clearance. Require nonnegative warm dimensions and positive retention factors; multiply each by its own retained-length factor and subtract cold shaft from cold hole.1

| warmHole | Warm Hole | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| warmShaft | Warm Shaft | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| holeRetention | Hole Retention | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| shaftRetention | Shaft Retention | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| coldHole | Cold Hole | Required. Finite number. |
| coldShaft | Cold Shaft | Required. Finite number. |
| clearance | Clearance | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Factors may exceed one; negative clearance remains visible and no safe mechanical fit is certified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
