Character Alias Period Validity

Check whether a supplied scene index falls within an alias period with inclusive index endpoints.

Loading tool…

Description

Check a scene index against a supplied inclusive alias period.

Writing records can represent speakers, scenes, aliases, rhyme labels and revision spans. These representations preserve selected conventions: a character count needs an indexing unit, an alias can be active over an inclusive period, and a stage-direction wrapper is a string pattern rather than a grammar. Mechanical labels do not evaluate literary quality or establish authorship.

Check a scene index against a supplied inclusive alias period.

When to use this tool

Use Character Alias Period Validity when you already have sceneIndex, aliasStartInclusive, aliasEndInclusive and need to check a scene index against a supplied inclusive alias period.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sceneIndex, aliasStartInclusive, aliasEndInclusive. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read validInScene. Inspect validInScene before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative safe whole indices with aliasEnd>=aliasStart; return start<=sceneIndex<=end.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
sceneIndexScene IndexRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
aliasStartInclusiveFirst included scene index.Required. Safe integer; minimum 0.
aliasEndInclusiveLast included scene index, not an excluded boundary.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Both endpoints count. No character, alias, manuscript scene order or narrative validity is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the full passage, draft history and editorial style when interpreting the result. Use complete text or narrative analysis for meaning and structure; local markers, offsets and supplied attribution records only organize the stated information.
