Description
Change a radiance value's solid-angle denominator basis.
Spectral and radiation quantities depend on their denominator coordinates, reference levels and physical definitions. A density per wavelength changes by a Jacobian when expressed per frequency, and photon counts, radiant energy, exposure and absorbed dose remain different quantities.
Change a radiance value's solid-angle denominator basis.
When to use this tool
Use Spectral Radiance Solid Angle Basis when checking the stated spectral, photon, attenuation or radiometric conversion.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter radiancePerSteradian, steradiansPerTargetUnit. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read radiancePerTargetUnit. Use the output convention below.
Change a radiance value's solid-angle denominator basis. Require steradiansPerTargetUnit > 0; radiancePerTargetUnit = radiancePerSteradian*steradiansPerTargetUnit.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| radiancePerSteradian | Radiance Per Steradian | Required. Finite number. |
| steradiansPerTargetUnit | Steradians Per Target Unit | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| radiancePerTargetUnit | Radiance Per Target Unit | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This changes the denominator unit, not integration over a beam; spectral and area bases must already match.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete spectrum, measurement calibration and appropriate physical interaction model for integration, uncertainty or exposure interpretation.
