Description

Return mass from supplied area and areal density unit factors.

Material-property conversions distinguish total quantities from values per area, mass, volume or thickness. Multiplication by a supplied density or geometry factor changes the basis only when its units and the material state agree with the original measurement.

Return mass from supplied area and areal density unit factors.

When to use this tool

Use Area Density Mass Factor when converting the stated material-property basis using compatible supplied quantities.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter area, arealMassDensity, suppliedAreaUnitFactor, suppliedDensityUnitFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read mass. Use the output convention below.

Return mass from supplied area and areal density unit factors. Require area/density >= 0 and both conversion factors positive; mass is the product of area, its factor, areal density and its factor.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Factors must map to compatible area and mass-per-area units; labels or physical properties are not looked up.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified unit definitions and state-specific material data; model interfaces, layers and measurement geometry explicitly for complete physical calculations.
