Description

Convert amount concentration to particle-number density.

Amount, mass and volume bases are distinct. Converting among them requires the appropriate molar mass, density, solvent basis or gas reference state; no universal factor can replace these supplied conventions.

Convert amount concentration to particle-number density.

When to use this tool

Use Amount Concentration Number Density Crosswalk when converting the stated concentration, molar quantity or gas-volume basis.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter molesPerVolume, avogadroConstant. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read particlesPerVolume. Use the output convention below.

Convert amount concentration to particle-number density. Require molesPerVolume >= 0 and avogadroConstant > 0; particlesPerVolume = concentration*constant.1

SI distinguishes amount of substance, particle number and energy; named units retain their specific quantity definitions.2

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
molesPerVolumeMoles Per VolumeRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
avogadroConstantAvogadro ConstantRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The volume denominator is preserved; the supplied constant is particles/mol, and no molecular species or dissociation is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use explicit compatible units and verified composition/state data; use a full mixture or equation-of-state model when fixed-property assumptions do not apply.
