Description
Assign a supplied one-dimensional location to a grid cell and midpoint.
Conservation observations depend on sampling effort, specimen provenance, spatial precision and the population being assessed. Survivors among assessed plants differ from survivors among all planted plants. Coordinate rounding or cell assignment changes a display location without guaranteeing protection, and a time-gap threshold does not establish independent observations.
Assign a supplied one-dimensional location to a grid cell and midpoint.
When to use this tool
Use Wildlife Telemetry Location Blur Cell when you already have coordinate, gridWidth, gridOrigin and need to assign a supplied one-dimensional location to a grid cell and midpoint.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter coordinate, gridWidth, gridOrigin. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read cellIndex, publicCellMidpoint. Use the output convention below.
Require gridWidth positive/finite; index=floor((coordinate-gridOrigin)/width), midpoint=origin+(index+0.5)*width.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| coordinate | Coordinate | Required. Finite number. |
| gridWidth | Grid Width | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| gridOrigin | Grid Origin | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| cellIndex | floor((coordinate-gridOrigin)/gridWidth), including floor toward negative infinity; safe integer output required. | Required. Safe integer. |
| publicCellMidpoint | Origin+(cellIndex+0.5)*width; a display representative rather than a privacy guarantee. | Required. Finite number. |

"coordinate": 12,
"gridWidth": 10,
"gridOrigin": 0
},
"output": {
"cellIndex": 1,
"publicCellMidpoint": 15

} Limitations and assumptions
- The index must fit the safe integer output domain. A grid midpoint is not verified privacy protection, a transformed coordinate system or permission to publish a wildlife location.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original field records, specimens, survey design and location-access requirements. Use the complete ecological and spatial method for population or protection decisions; local rates, interval flags and source-qualified labels do not supply it.
