Description
Return area-time share under active designation flags.
Conservation monitoring depends on survey effort, detection assumptions, area/time bases and explicit unknown-status policies. A local probability or coverage ratio describes supplied observations and models without establishing population abundance, ecological success or legal protection.
Return area-time share under active designation flags.
When to use this tool
Use Public Protected Area Time Share when checking a supplied conservation-monitoring, geometry or evidence-basis convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter areas, durations, activeDesignation. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read areaTime, designatedAreaTime, share, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.
Return area-time share under active designation flags. Require aligned nonnegative areas/durations and flags; sum area*duration for all and designated records, divide when total positive, otherwise zero with defined false.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| areas | Areas | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| durations | Durations | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| activeDesignation | Active Designation | Required. Array of boolean; maximum items 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| areaTime | Area Time | Required. Finite number. |
| designatedAreaTime | Designated Area Time | Required. Finite number. |
| share | Dimensionless numerator/denominator ratio under the explicit basis above. | Required. Finite number. |
| defined | Whether the stated denominator or information basis permits interpretation of the associated value; inspect before using a placeholder. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Overlaps are not removed and designation flags are not legal verification of protection or conservation effectiveness.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use an appropriate ecological sampling and detection model, verified field records and actual habitat geometry for substantive conservation inference.
