Description
Compare a supplied camera-event gap with a supplied separation threshold.
Conservation observations depend on sampling effort, specimen provenance, spatial precision and the population being assessed. Survivors among assessed plants differ from survivors among all planted plants. Coordinate rounding or cell assignment changes a display location without guaranteeing protection, and a time-gap threshold does not establish independent observations.
Compare a supplied camera-event gap with a supplied separation threshold.
When to use this tool
Use Camera Trap Single Independent Event Gap when you already have previousEventEndSeconds, currentEventStartSeconds, minimumGapSeconds and need to compare a supplied camera-event gap with a supplied separation threshold.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter previousEventEndSeconds, currentEventStartSeconds, minimumGapSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read gapSeconds, independentUnderSuppliedRule. Inspect independentUnderSuppliedRule before interpreting the associated values.
Require minimumGapSeconds>=0; gap=currentStart-previousEnd, independentUnderRule=gap>=minimum.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| previousEventEndSeconds | Previous Event End Seconds | Required. Finite number. |
| currentEventStartSeconds | Current Event Start Seconds | Required. Finite number. |
| minimumGapSeconds | Minimum Gap Seconds | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| gapSeconds | Gap Seconds | Required. Finite number. |
| independentUnderSuppliedRule | gapSeconds>=minimumGapSeconds, including equality; a label under a supplied rule, not statistical independence. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative gaps and overlap are retained; equality passes. This is a caller's temporal rule, not statistical independence, individual identity or actual event detection.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original field records, specimens, survey design and location-access requirements. Use the complete ecological and spatial method for population or protection decisions; local rates, interval flags and source-qualified labels do not supply it.
