Description

Separate a supplied matching-contribution shortfall from surplus.

Community records describe contributions, volunteer time, grants, notices, language requests and meeting participation. Person-minutes differ from elapsed task time, assigned in-kind values require a valuation basis, and a nominal seat count need not be a whole-person allocation. Supplied participation or permission flags do not verify actual access, consent or eligibility.

Separate a supplied matching-contribution shortfall from surplus.

When to use this tool

Use Neighborhood Project Match Shortfall when you already have requiredMatch, securedMatch and need to separate a supplied matching-contribution shortfall from surplus.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter requiredMatch, securedMatch. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read shortfall, surplus. Use the output convention below.

Require requiredMatch/securedMatch>=0; return the nonnegative positive part of each directed difference.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Matching amounts are supplied, not verified commitments. No eligibility, agreement, funding completeness or actual grant entitlement is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the underlying meeting, funding, service and volunteer records with the applicable project rules. Use full budgets, schedules and participation evidence when evaluating delivery or fairness; local labels and arithmetic retain only the stated assumptions.
