Chiropractic Review Effect Estimate Rounding Envelope Tool

Envelope an explicitly rounded effect estimate, separate from statistical uncertainty.

Description

Return a symmetric decimal-rounding envelope for an estimate.

Research effect estimates depend on outcome definitions, unit conversions, orientation and statistical assumptions. A written rounding envelope describes reporting precision; an effect-size contribution or supplied interval is different from a fitted analysis, a confidence statement or evidence of clinical benefit.

Return a symmetric decimal-rounding envelope for an estimate.

When to use this tool

Use Chiropractic Review Effect Estimate Rounding Envelope when checking the stated effect-size, measurement or interval convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter estimate, decimalPlaces, nullValue. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lower, upper, canIncludeNull. Inspect canIncludeNull before interpreting the associated values.

Return a symmetric decimal-rounding envelope for an estimate. Require decimalPlaces 0..15; lower/upper = estimate minus/plus 0.5*10^-places, canIncludeNull tests closed containment of nullValue.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
estimateEstimateRequired. Finite number.
decimalPlacesDecimal PlacesRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0; maximum 15.
nullValueNull ValueRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
lowerEstimate minus half one unit at the stated decimal precision; not a confidence bound.Required. Finite number.
upperUpperRequired. Finite number.
canIncludeNullCan Include NullRequired. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This concerns written precision, not measurement or sampling uncertainty and not a significance test.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete, justified statistical analysis and original study data; distinguish reporting precision from sampling uncertainty and assess clinical relevance independently.
