Research Task Look Window Gap Tool

Compare explicit research look intervals with a supplied duration requirement, without developmental interpretation.

Loading tool…

Description

Compare looking-time overlap with a required task duration.

Developmental-study observations use explicit trial, age, stimulus and missing-data conventions. Counterbalance flags and observation shares describe supplied research records; they do not establish actual stimulus presentation, an age correction appropriate for clinical use or a developmental assessment.

Compare looking-time overlap with a required task duration.

When to use this tool

Use Research Task Look Window Gap when checking the stated child-study observation, timing or record convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter lookStart, lookEnd, taskStart, taskEnd, requiredLookDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read overlapDuration, durationGap. Use the output convention below.

Compare looking-time overlap with a required task duration. Require ordered look/task intervals and requiredLookDuration >= 0; overlapDuration = max(0,min(ends)-max(starts)), durationGap = overlap-required.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Touching intervals have zero overlap; observations and requirement are supplied, not detected or developmentally validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the study protocol, actual observations and consent/assent records; use validated assessment and qualified professional judgment for developmental or care decisions.
