Description
Convert dry-basis concentration to wet-basis amount.
A process stream can be described on mass, mole, phase or solvent bases, which are not interchangeable. Lever rules, partition factors and operating-line terms assume compatible composition definitions and an appropriate physical model; a local balance does not determine equilibrium properties or a complete separation design.
Convert dry-basis concentration to wet-basis amount.
When to use this tool
Use Solid Liquid Moisture Basis Term when checking the stated stream composition, phase or separation-model term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter wetMass, waterFraction, dryBasisConcentration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read dryMass, constituentMass, wetBasisConcentration. Use the output convention below.
Convert dry-basis concentration to wet-basis amount. Require wetMass/dryBasisConcentration >= 0 and waterFraction in [0,1); dryMass = wet*(1-water), constituentMass = dryMass*dry concentration, wetBasisConcentration = (1-water)*dry concentration.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| wetMass | Wet Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| waterFraction | Water mass fraction of wet material, strictly below one. Unit: 1. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; strictly below 1. |
| dryBasisConcentration | Constituent mass per dry solid mass, in compatible mass units. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| dryMass | Dry Mass | Required. Finite number. |
| constituentMass | Constituent Mass | Required. Finite number. |
| wetBasisConcentration | Wet Basis Concentration | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Water fraction is wet-mass based; concentrations must be amount per compatible mass and no moisture measurement occurs.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified equilibrium and material-property data on consistent bases and solve the complete process model for actual separation or equipment decisions.
