Process Valve Rangeability Ratio

Calculate rangeability from explicitly supplied maximum and minimum positive controllable valve flows on one test basis.

Description

Calculate a supplied controllable-flow rangeability ratio.

Engineering scalar terms depend on mass versus mole bases, absolute state variables and the process boundary. A vapor/liquid ratio differs from a reaction equilibrium constant, space time differs from a measured residence-time distribution, and fouling-area scaling preserves a specified heat-transfer product. Supplied terms do not validate an actual process.

Calculate a supplied controllable-flow rangeability ratio.

When to use this tool

Use Process Valve Rangeability Ratio when you already have maximumControllableFlow, minimumControllableFlow and need to calculate a supplied controllable-flow rangeability ratio.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter maximumControllableFlow, minimumControllableFlow. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rangeability. Use the output convention below.

Require minimum positive/finite and maximum>=minimum; return maximum/minimum.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
maximumControllableFlowMaximum Controllable FlowRequired. Finite number.
minimumControllableFlowMinimum Controllable FlowRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape

Limitations and assumptions

  • The ratio is at least one, assuming matching conditions. No valve characteristic, actual controllability, installed range, sizing or safe operating range is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete material, energy, phase and equipment models with verified operating conditions. Check concentration bases, gas reference states and measurement uncertainty before applying local ratios or balances to process design or operation.
