Buffer Equal Record Slot Count
Budget fixed-byte records after an explicit buffer header reservation, retaining unused tail bytes.
Description
Budget fixed-byte records after an explicit buffer header reservation, retaining unused tail bytes.
Equal-size records fit into the bytes left after one fixed header. Remainder bytes cannot hold another complete record.
When to use this tool
Budget fixed-byte records after an explicit buffer header reservation, retaining unused tail bytes.
- Prepare the supplied bytes, recordBytes, headerBytes fields for this operation.
- Compare the complete example with the representation used by your own input before carrying the result into another step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter bytes, recordBytes, headerBytes. Use the exact text syntax, units and index conventions explained below.
- Run the tool. If input validation fails, correct the supplied fields before interpreting any result.
- Read result.records, result.remainder. Interpret false, null and empty lists using the distinctions below; they can be valid outputs.
Validate nonnegative integer bytes, positive recordBytes and headerBytes within bytes. Subtract header, floor-divide by record size and return records plus modulo remainder.1
| Input field | Meaning and representation | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| bytes | bytes. | Integer from 0 to 1e9 inclusive |
| recordBytes | record bytes. | Integer from 1 to 1e9 inclusive |
| headerBytes | header bytes. | Integer from 0 to bytes inclusive |
| Output field | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| result | Object containing the named outputs below. |
| result.records | The records value under the stated formula or text convention. |
| result.remainder | The remainder value under the stated formula or text convention. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No alignment, per-record header, fragmentation or actual buffer allocation is included.
- All declared input fields are required and unexpected top-level fields are rejected. Numbers must be finite; lists are limited to 128 entries and ordinary text fields to 8,192 UTF-16 code units, with tighter limits where stated.
- JSON text inputs must parse within bounded nesting and size limits. Numeric outputs outside the safe finite range are rejected; large exact integer results use decimal strings. Indexes and half-open spans are zero-based unless a rank is explicitly described as one-based.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check the arithmetic against the actual scheduling or storage policy. Add variable costs, arrivals, concurrent state and overhead in a model that explicitly represents them when they affect the decision.
