Description
Return customer age and period index relative to acquisition.
Business timing and cohort summaries depend on event origins, bucket boundaries and the treatment of incomplete records. A time difference or bucket label is a supplied record convention rather than proof of customer behavior, completed service or future retention.
Return customer age and period index relative to acquisition.
When to use this tool
Use Customer Age Period Index when checking the stated business timing or cohort convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter acquiredAt, cutoff, periodLength. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read age, periodIndex. Use the output convention below.
Return customer age and period index relative to acquisition. Require periodLength > 0; age = cutoff-acquiredAt, periodIndex = floor(age/periodLength).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| acquiredAt | Acquired At | Required. Finite number. |
| cutoff | Cutoff | Required. Finite number. |
| periodLength | Period Length | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| age | Age | Required. Finite number. |
| periodIndex | Floor of age/period length; negative ages can produce negative indexes. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative ages produce negative indexes; the period is fixed numeric duration, not calendar-month arithmetic or verified acquisition data.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use complete event records and a defined cohort/period policy; evaluate commercial performance and uncertainty with appropriate complete analyses.
