Assay Dilution Transfer Factor Tool

Describe an analytical dilution transfer with common volume units and a final volume including the transfer.

Loading tool…

Description

Return final/transferred as dilutionFactor and transferred/final as transferredFraction.

Dilution changes the concentration or source-equivalent quantity associated with a sample. A dilution fraction is the retained proportion; its reciprocal is a correction factor.

Return final/transferred as dilutionFactor and transferred/final as transferredFraction.

When to use this tool

Use Assay Dilution Transfer Factor when you need a supplied dilution or source-equivalent calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter transferredVolume, finalVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read dilutionFactor, transferredFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require positive transferredVolume and finalVolume at least as large. Return final/transferred as dilutionFactor and transferred/final as transferredFraction.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

Limitations and assumptions

  • Volumes must share units and analyte-free dilution is assumed; this does not compute concentration, recovery, or safe laboratory procedure.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Trace every dilution stage and volume basis from the bench record, including recovery and blank assumptions where relevant.
