Description
Parse a four-digit authority year and preserve provenance.
Taxonomic names, authorship strings, nomenclatural types and source-defined taxon concepts are related but distinct records. A literal token parser or source-label comparison can preserve a stated convention without resolving accepted taxonomy or establishing compliance with the applicable nomenclatural code.
Parse a four-digit authority year and preserve provenance.
When to use this tool
Use Taxon Authority Year Token when checking the stated taxonomic source, name-token, date or concept-support convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter yearToken, authority, source. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read year, provenanceKey. Use the output convention below.
Parse a four-digit authority year and preserve provenance. Require yearToken exactly four decimal digits; year converts it numerically, provenanceKey serializes source/authority/original year token.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| yearToken | Year Token | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| authority | Authority | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| source | Source | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

| year | Year | Required. Safe integer. |
| provenanceKey | Provenance Key | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

"input": {
"yearToken": "1900",
"authority": "Author A",
"source": "source-2"
},
"output": {
"year": 1900,
"provenanceKey": "[\"source-2\",\"Author A\",\"1900\"]"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- The grammar permits 0000; source, actual publication year and author identity are not verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Consult the original taxonomic treatment and applicable nomenclatural code, and use source-aware taxonomic resolution for accepted names, priority or type status.
