Description
Reconcile supplied inventory counts against a recorded closing count.
Biosecurity metadata can record custody references, inventory counts, access assertions and review dates. A balanced inventory does not authenticate materials or explain discrepancies, and a recorded permission flag does not grant access. These tools organize supplied records rather than inspect facilities, assess threats or provide operational procedures.
Reconcile supplied inventory counts against a recorded closing count.
When to use this tool
Use Biosecurity Inventory Count Residual when you already have openingCount, receivedCount, transferredCount, recordedClosingCount and need to reconcile supplied inventory counts against a recorded closing count.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter openingCount, receivedCount, transferredCount, recordedClosingCount. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read unexplainedResidual. Use the output convention below.
Require all counts nonnegative safe integers; use BigInt opening+received-transferred-recordedClosing, then export a safe integer.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| openingCount | Opening Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| receivedCount | Received Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| transferredCount | Transferred Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| recordedClosingCount | Recorded Closing Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| unexplainedResidual | Exact opening+received-transferred-recorded closing balance; safe numeric export, without attributing the discrepancy. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Signed residuals are retained and unsafe exports rejected. No item identity, stock, custody, disposition, authorization or actual security status is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use controlled inventory, custody, authorization and oversight records for real decisions. Verify the underlying evidence and applicable requirements through the established professional process; local labels and balances do not establish security or compliance.
