Description
Convert wet-soil mass and concentration to a dry basis.
Environmental-remediation bookkeeping uses explicit water, soil, dry-mass, concentration and sampling bases. A local mass residual, censored-result bound or supplied target margin does not identify a removal mechanism, establish representativeness or determine an environmentally acceptable contaminant level.
Convert wet-soil mass and concentration to a dry basis.
When to use this tool
Use Remediation Soil Dry Mass Correction when checking the stated remediation measurement, mass/volume balance or support convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter wetMass, waterFraction, concentrationWet. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read dryMass, concentrationDry. Use the output convention below.
Convert wet-soil mass and concentration to a dry basis. Require wetMass >= 0 and waterFraction in [0,1); dryMass = wet*(1-water), concentrationDry = concentrationWet/(1-water).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| wetMass | Wet Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| waterFraction | Water mass fraction in [0,1); all-water material has no positive dry-mass basis here. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; strictly below 1. |
| concentrationWet | Concentration Wet | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| dryMass | Dry Mass | Required. Finite number. |
| concentrationDry | Concentration Dry | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Water fraction is wet-mass based; signed concentration is retained and no actual moisture or analytical result is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified sampling and analytical data, consistent material/unit bases and a complete transport or treatment model; involve qualified environmental professionals for practical or regulatory decisions.
