Description
Return first/second gait ratio and signed symmetry index.
Biomechanical normalization depends on a body, material or reference-length basis. A dimensionless force, strain or allocation fraction can be consistent with supplied numbers without establishing actual anatomy, healthy motion, appropriate training or safe tissue loading.
Return first/second gait ratio and signed symmetry index.
When to use this tool
Use Gait Symmetry Ratio Index Crosswalk when checking the stated biomechanical scale, strain or mass-basis convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter first, second. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read ratio, symmetryIndexPercent. Use the output convention below.
Return first/second gait ratio and signed symmetry index. Require first >= 0 and second > 0; ratio = first/second, symmetryIndexPercent = 200*(first-second)/(first+second).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| first | First | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| second | Second | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| ratio | Ratio | Required. Finite number. |
| symmetryIndexPercent | Symmetry Index Percent | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The index uses the mean of the pair as denominator; numerical symmetry does not establish healthy or safe gait.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated measurements and an appropriate complete biomechanical model; consult qualified health or movement professionals for care, rehabilitation or safe activity decisions.
