Bioinformatics: Fastq Quality Char Phred Score Tool

Decode one printable FASTQ quality character under explicitly selected historical ASCII offset33 or64, without auto-detecting encoding or validating a read.

Description

Decode one FASTQ quality character under a supplied offset.

Sequence text, ambiguity codes and encoded quality scores describe different information. Literal alphabets and Phred transformations can be checked without identifying a molecule or proving calibrated sequencing accuracy; missingness and reporting encodings require explicit conventions.

Decode one FASTQ quality character under a supplied offset.

When to use this tool

Use Bioinformatics: Fastq Quality Char Phred Score when checking the stated sequence token, ambiguity, quality symbol or local trimming convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter character, offset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Decode one FASTQ quality character under a supplied offset. Require offset 33 or 64 and one character with code between offset and 126; phredScore = code-offset.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Offset is not detected and dialect compatibility is not verified; one character is decoded without assessing read quality calibration.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete format-aware sequence/quality workflow and the appropriate reference/genetic code; assess biological identity and quality calibration independently.
