Description
Return nominal contact pressure with a zero-area flag.
Bench measurements use supplied electrical/force references, contact geometry and calibration models. A bridge voltage, pressure or drift correction evaluates a local relationship while actual wiring, sensor response, safe excitation and biological contact conditions require independent verification.
Return nominal contact pressure with a zero-area flag.
When to use this tool
Use Sensor Contact Pressure Zero Area Flag when checking the stated benign bench sensor, contact or calibration convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter force, contactArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read defined, nominalPressure. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.
Return nominal contact pressure with a zero-area flag. Require force/contactArea >= 0; defined means area > 0, nominalPressure = force/area when defined, otherwise zero.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| force | Force | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| contactArea | Contact Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| defined | Whether the stated denominator or information basis supports this value; inspect placeholders before interpretation. | Required. Boolean. |
| nominalPressure | Force/contactArea when defined; zero placeholder at zero area. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Zero is a placeholder at zero area even with positive force; no actual pressure distribution or safe-contact limit is determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated instruments, verified wiring/geometry and a complete engineering assessment; involve qualified professionals for device safety or clinical interpretation.
