Description
Return actual/reference survey effort weight.
Biodiversity summaries depend on taxon concepts, sampling effort, detection and missing-status policies. Literal labels and observed shares can organize records while species identity, true abundance, occupancy and conservation status require appropriate ecological evidence and analysis.
Return actual/reference survey effort weight.
When to use this tool
Use Survey Effort Coverage Weight when checking the stated biodiversity record, effort, count or support convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter actualEffort, referenceEffort. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read weight. Use the output convention below.
Return actual/reference survey effort weight. Require actualEffort >= 0 and referenceEffort > 0; weight = actual/reference.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| actualEffort | Actual Effort | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| referenceEffort | Reference Effort | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| weight | Caller-supplied weight on the stated observation, model or allocation basis. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Weights above one are retained; comparable sampling effort and an appropriate reference are supplied rather than validated.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use source-aware taxonomy, verified field records and a suitable sampling/detection model for ecological estimates, uncertainty or conservation conclusions.
