Description
Calculate a supplied reaction quotient-minus-reference gap.
Biochemical quantities depend on species definitions, mass versus amount basis, reference states, blank models and assay conditions. A free/bound difference does not establish equilibrium, a per-volume activity differs from activity per protein mass, and a dilution factor differs from its reciprocal aliquot fraction.
Calculate a supplied reaction quotient-minus-reference gap.
When to use this tool
Use Reaction Equilibrium Reference Gap when you already have referenceQuotient, measuredQuotient and need to calculate a supplied reaction quotient-minus-reference gap.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter referenceQuotient, measuredQuotient. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.
Return measuredQuotient-referenceQuotient with signs preserved.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| referenceQuotient | Reference Quotient | Required. Finite number. |
| measuredQuotient | Measured Quotient | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| signedGap | Signed Gap | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The quotients must use consistent activity and reference definitions. No equilibrium, reaction direction, free energy or valid composition is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full assay, reaction and calibration method with verified sample records. Check units, reference definitions, blanks and experimental assumptions before interpreting a local product, fraction or rate as a valid biochemical measurement.
