Description
Calculate a supplied tag-plus-protein mass and tag mass fraction.
Biochemical quantities depend on species definitions, mass versus amount basis, reference states, blank models and assay conditions. A free/bound difference does not establish equilibrium, a per-volume activity differs from activity per protein mass, and a dilution factor differs from its reciprocal aliquot fraction.
Calculate a supplied tag-plus-protein mass and tag mass fraction.
When to use this tool
Use Protein Tag Mass Fraction when you already have tagMassDaltons, untaggedProteinMassDaltons and need to calculate a supplied tag-plus-protein mass and tag mass fraction.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter tagMassDaltons, untaggedProteinMassDaltons. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read taggedMassDaltons, tagMassFraction. Use the output convention below.
Require tagMassDaltons>=0 and untaggedProteinMassDaltons>0; sum them and divide tag mass by that sum.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| tagMassDaltons | Tag Mass Daltons | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| untaggedProteinMassDaltons | Untagged Protein Mass Daltons | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| taggedMassDaltons | Tagged Mass Daltons | Required. Finite number. |
| tagMassFraction | tagMassDaltons/(tagMassDaltons+untaggedProteinMassDaltons); total tagged mass is the denominator. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The denominator is tagged total mass. No sequence, processing or stoichiometry is verified; extreme summed mass overflow causes rejection because total mass is exported.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full assay, reaction and calibration method with verified sample records. Check units, reference definitions, blanks and experimental assumptions before interpreting a local product, fraction or rate as a valid biochemical measurement.
