Description
Return a row-major storage index with an origin offset.
Biobank administration tracks specimen IDs, source labels, storage addresses and inventory assertions. A check symbol, row-major index or supported-record count helps reconcile metadata while actual specimen identity, storage conditions and availability require verified records and physical controls.
Return a row-major storage index with an origin offset.
When to use this tool
Use Storage Position Index Offset when checking the stated biobank address, label, inventory or support convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter row, column, columnsPerRow, firstIndex. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read index. Use the output convention below.
Return a row-major storage index with an origin offset. Require nonnegative whole row, positive columnsPerRow and column within it; compute row*columns+column+firstIndex using BigInt intermediates, then convert to numeric output.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| row | Row | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| column | Column | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| columnsPerRow | Columns Per Row | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| firstIndex | First Index | Required. Safe integer. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| index | Numeric row-major address after exact intermediate arithmetic; not decimal-integer text. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- firstIndex follows its declared integer contract; no location is reserved, and numeric output must not be assumed arbitrary-precision text.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the complete inventory/label format and verified physical records; inspect actual storage and specimen conditions under appropriate professional procedures.
