Sample Freeze Thaw Unknown Count Tool

Represent supplied freeze/thaw event uncertainty as a lower bound and a known-or-unbounded upper endpoint; flagged zero is not an event count.

Description

Return known and uncertain freeze-thaw count bounds.

Biobank administration tracks specimen IDs, source labels, storage addresses and inventory assertions. A check symbol, row-major index or supported-record count helps reconcile metadata while actual specimen identity, storage conditions and availability require verified records and physical controls.

Return known and uncertain freeze-thaw count bounds.

When to use this tool

Use Sample Freeze Thaw Unknown Count when checking the stated biobank address, label, inventory or support convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter knownEvents, uncertainEvents, upperKnown, suppliedUnobservedUpper. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read minimumEvents, maximumEvents, maximumKnown, uncertainRecords. Inspect maximumKnown before interpreting the associated values.

Return known and uncertain freeze-thaw count bounds. Require nonnegative whole counts and suppliedUnobservedUpper >= uncertainEvents; minimumEvents = knownEvents, maximum adds supplied upper only when upperKnown, otherwise zero with maximumKnown false.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Uncertain records are not automatically counted as events; unknown maximum zero is a placeholder and specimen integrity is not assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete inventory/label format and verified physical records; inspect actual storage and specimen conditions under appropriate professional procedures.
