Citation Source Page Span Tool

Calculate citation source page span from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return exact eligible-page counts under an endpoint policy.

Bibliographic records connect authors, versions, publication dates and locators through explicit identifiers. Literal comparisons and counts help reconcile those records but do not retrieve publications, authenticate sources or establish the quality or meaning of a citation.

Return exact eligible-page counts under an endpoint policy.

When to use this tool

Use Citation Source Page Span when checking the stated bibliographic record, locator, date or counting convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter startPage, endPage, inclusive, excludedPages. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rawSpanDecimal, eligiblePagesDecimal. Use the output convention below.

Return exact eligible-page counts under an endpoint policy. Require whole 0 <= startPage <= endPage and excludedPages no greater than raw span; rawSpan adds one only when inclusive, eligible subtracts excluded, return both as decimal text.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Exclusions are supplied counts, not identified pages; pagination, document identity and actual citation density are not validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original publications and authoritative metadata, and use complete identifier-aware reference management for scholarly attribution and evidence appraisal.
