Behavioral Task Incentive Rounding

Round a supplied nonnegative incentive to the nearest explicit quantum, with ties upward, and report the signed rounding adjustment.

Description

Round a supplied nonnegative incentive to a stated quantum.

Behavioral economic tasks use explicit payoff units, reference values, time periods and supplied utility or discount conventions. A decision weight need not be a probability, one branch term is not a full expectation, and a nominal cost difference does not establish perceived switching difficulty or an actual preference.

Round a supplied nonnegative incentive to a stated quantum.

When to use this tool

Use Behavioral Task Incentive Rounding when you already have rawAmount, quantum and need to round a supplied nonnegative incentive to a stated quantum.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter rawAmount, quantum. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read roundedAmount, roundingResidual. Use the output convention below.

Require rawAmount>=0 and quantum>0; rounded=Math.round(raw/quantum)*quantum, residual=rounded-raw.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
rawAmountRaw AmountRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
quantumQuantumRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
roundedAmountMath.round(rawAmount/quantum)*quantum; halfway nonnegative values round upward subject to binary precision.Required. Finite number.
roundingResidualRounding ResidualRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Halfway nonnegative values round upward, subject to binary representation. No currency minor-unit rule, actual payment or permissible compensation policy is selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the full task design, incentive and payoff definitions, participant records and statistical analysis. Estimate behavioral models from appropriate data when local supplied-value arithmetic cannot establish preferences or causal effects.
