Description
Label the direction of a supplied hearing-level step.
Hearing records depend on frequency, laterality, masking status, calibration and level reference. A no-response label differs from a measured threshold, while an air-minus-bone gap requires comparable test conditions. Device charge arithmetic and scalar signal offsets do not establish hearing status or suitable care.
Label the direction of a supplied hearing-level step.
When to use this tool
Use Hearing Threshold Step Direction when you already have previousLevel, nextLevel and need to label the direction of a supplied hearing-level step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter previousLevel, nextLevel. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read signedStep, direction. Use the output convention below.
Return nextLevel-previousLevel and up, down or unchanged from exact comparisons.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| previousLevel | Previous Level | Required. Finite number. |
| nextLevel | Next Level | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| signedStep | Signed Step | Required. Finite number. |
| direction | Direction | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Comparable level units/references are required. No threshold search, clinical test procedure, response or suitable level is determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review original audiograms, instrument settings, test records and the complete clinical context. Use an appropriate professional assessment for interpretation; local unit conversions and supplied labels do not choose tests, presentation levels or intervention.
