Audiology Ear Laterality Code

Encode explicitly supplied ear laterality using the local L/R/B/U convention, without claiming a clinical terminology-system code.

Description

Map a supplied ear designation to a short code.

Hearing records depend on frequency, laterality, masking status, calibration and level reference. A no-response label differs from a measured threshold, while an air-minus-bone gap requires comparable test conditions. Device charge arithmetic and scalar signal offsets do not establish hearing status or suitable care.

Map a supplied ear designation to a short code.

When to use this tool

Use Audiology Ear Laterality Code when you already have ear and need to map a supplied ear designation to a short code.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter ear. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read code. Use the output convention below.

Accept left, right, both or unspecified; map to L, R, B or U respectively.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • No ear identity, clinical observation, notation standard beyond this mapping or suitable test is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original audiograms, instrument settings, test records and the complete clinical context. Use an appropriate professional assessment for interpretation; local unit conversions and supplied labels do not choose tests, presentation levels or intervention.
