Description
Label a supplied dew-point or frost-point reference designation.
Atmospheric values depend on pressure order, vertical datums, moisture definitions and reference conditions. Specific humidity uses moist-air mass as its denominator, whereas mixing ratio uses dry-air mass. A pressure-order flag differs from a temperature inversion, and a logarithmic-pressure weight can represent extrapolation.
Label a supplied dew-point or frost-point reference designation.
When to use this tool
Use Dew Point Versus Frost Point Source Tag when you already have recordId, reportedReference and need to label a supplied dew-point or frost-point reference designation.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter recordId, reportedReference. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read label. Use the output convention below.
Require recordId nonempty and reportedReference dewpoint, frostpoint or unspecified; append the designation.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| recordId | Record Id | Required. Text; minimum UTF-16 length 1; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| reportedReference | Reported Reference | Required. Text; one of "dewpoint", "frostpoint", "unspecified"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| label | Label | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
{
"input": {
"recordId": "R17",
"reportedReference": "frostpoint"
},
"output": {
"label": "R17 [frostpoint]"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- The label does not convert between liquid/ice saturation definitions, compute a temperature or establish actual humidity.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated profile and station data with the complete atmospheric model. Preserve datum, humidity and pressure conventions and assess uncertainty before interpreting local terms as an observed layer, state or forecast.
