Description
Calculate a supplied zenith-projected solid-angle weight.
Atmospheric scalar terms require explicit averaging, spectral, geometric and propagation conventions. One fluctuation product is not a time-averaged flux, a squared deviation is not a full scintillation index, and a Nyquist interval does not de-alias radar velocity. Layer terms require compatible units and model assumptions.
Calculate a supplied zenith-projected solid-angle weight.
When to use this tool
Use Sky View Zenith Angle Weight when you already have zenithAngleRadians, solidAngleSteradians and need to calculate a supplied zenith-projected solid-angle weight.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter zenithAngleRadians, solidAngleSteradians. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read projectedSolidAngleWeight. Use the output convention below.
Require zenith angle in [0,π/2] radians and solid angle>=0; multiply cos(angle)*solid angle.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| zenithAngleRadians | Angle from vertical in [0,π/2] radians. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| solidAngleSteradians | Solid Angle Steradians | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| projectedSolidAngleWeight | cos(zenithAngleRadians)*solidAngleSteradians, one projected angular term. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is one angular weight, not a full sky-view factor or radiance integral. The horizon cosine can be a tiny nonzero floating-point value.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the complete measurement and physical retrieval model. Include calibration, averaging, source geometry, spectral response and relevant transfer or flow effects when local weights and signal factors cannot establish the desired atmospheric quantity.
