Public Text Syllable Mark Count Tool

Count explicitly designated syllable-mark code points rather than infer syllable boundaries.

Description

Count supplied single-code-point marks in text.

Language and manuscript records use explicit source labels, scripts, era-year conventions and text/area units. A literal split, Unicode slot or page-area calculation preserves supplied notation without resolving pronunciation, historical dates, manuscript identity or conservation needs.

Count supplied single-code-point marks in text.

When to use this tool

Use Public Text Syllable Mark Count when checking the stated language, manuscript, era-label or Unicode convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter text, suppliedMarks. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read marks. Use the output convention below.

Count supplied single-code-point marks in text. Require each supplied mark contain exactly one Unicode code point; iterate text code points and count membership matches.1

Unicode code points, UTF-16 code units and graphemes are different counting units. Precomposed modern Hangul syllables also have an algorithmic trailing-jamo slot, distinct from linguistic analysis.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • Marks need not be linguistic syllable boundaries and repeated mark labels do not multiply a hit; no actual segmentation occurs.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original text/manuscript and its documented language, edition, calendar and encoding conventions for substantive linguistic, historical or conservation interpretation.
