Description
Return a manuscript-leaf offset in half-leaf units.
Language and manuscript records use explicit source labels, scripts, era-year conventions and text/area units. A literal split, Unicode slot or page-area calculation preserves supplied notation without resolving pronunciation, historical dates, manuscript identity or conservation needs.
Return a manuscript-leaf offset in half-leaf units.
When to use this tool
Use Public Manuscript Leaf Offset when checking the stated language, manuscript, era-label or Unicode convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter leaf, referenceLeaf, recto. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read halfLeafOffset. Use the output convention below.
Return a manuscript-leaf offset in half-leaf units. Require positive whole leaf/referenceLeaf; halfLeafOffset = leaf-referenceLeaf plus zero for recto or 0.5 for verso.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| leaf | Leaf | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| referenceLeaf | Reference Leaf | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| recto | Recto | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| halfLeafOffset | leaf-referenceLeaf, plus 0.5 for verso under a recto reference anchor. | Required. Finite number. |

"output": {

} Limitations and assumptions
- The reference is its recto under this convention; foliation, missing leaves and manuscript identity are supplied rather than verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the original text/manuscript and its documented language, edition, calendar and encoding conventions for substantive linguistic, historical or conservation interpretation.
