Description
Return page area after supplied hole-overlap correction.
Language and manuscript records use explicit source labels, scripts, era-year conventions and text/area units. A literal split, Unicode slot or page-area calculation preserves supplied notation without resolving pronunciation, historical dates, manuscript identity or conservation needs.
Return page area after supplied hole-overlap correction.
When to use this tool
Use Palm Leaf Page Hole Exclusion when checking the stated language, manuscript, era-label or Unicode convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter pageArea, holeAreas, overlappingHoleArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read usableArea, holeUnion. Use the output convention below.
Return page area after supplied hole-overlap correction. Require nonnegative page/hole areas and valid overlap no greater than total holes, corrected hole union <= page; holeUnion = sum(holes)-overlap, usableArea = page-union.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| pageArea | Page Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| holeAreas | Hole Areas | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| overlappingHoleArea | Overlapping Hole Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| usableArea | Usable Area | Required. Finite number. |
| holeUnion | Hole Union | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The overlap must already encode the correct union correction; no image segmentation, manuscript condition or conservation treatment is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the original text/manuscript and its documented language, edition, calendar and encoding conventions for substantive linguistic, historical or conservation interpretation.
